Meta to cut off support for original Quest soon
As Meta had planned last year, it is all set to cut off support for the original Quest headset. The tech giant sent out another email to developers to serve as a reminder that the support will end soon.
According to the latest report by Forbes, the developers have received an email that provides more details about how the support will end and future plans for the Oculus Quest VR headset.
As per this email, developers will no longer be able to roll out updates for their apps after April 30th. After this date, Meta will block any updates, even if the developers want to roll them out. Further, any new apps published on the Meta Quest store will not be available for download on this Quest device.
As mentioned earlier, Meta announced that it would be pulling the plug on the Oculus Quest headset way back in January 2023. Since then, Quest users have been losing access to features and upgrades continuously. The email mentioned that Meta will continue to release “critical bug fixes and security patches” until August. After that, Meta will officially end support for its first VR headset.
Quest users who want to keep using VR headsets on Meta’s platform with the latest features and security patches will have to upgrade to Meta Quest 2 (curr. $199 on Amazon) or Meta Quest 3 (curr. $499 on Amazon).
