MelGeek's new limited-edition Evangelion keyboards bring Hall-effect switches, Rei adds 60Hz OLED touchscreen
MelGeek has unveiled two officially licensed Evangelion keyboards in partnership with Khara, Inc.: the Centauri 60 Asuka Edition ($359) and the Centauri 80 Rei Edition ($459). Both sit on the same Hall Effect platform. The major difference is the character theming in layout, tuning, and design.
The Centauri 60 Asuka Edition uses a compact 60% layout with a "Rose Gold" CNC aluminum knob, a red-black-yellow colorway (pulled from EVA-02 and Asuka's plug suit), a laser-etched EVA-02 insignia, an Asuka identity plate, and her line "I Can Save the Human Race All by Myself" engraved on the underside. The unibody chassis weighs 1.32 kg.
The Centauri 80 Rei Edition, on the other hand, has an 80% layout with a full function row and dedicated arrow keys. It also features a 325 PPI OLED touchscreen with a 60 Hz refresh rate and 1 ms touch response. This display runs on its own dedicated MCU and is capable of displaying custom JPG, PNG, or GIF wallpapers as well. The keyboard is equipped with a "Cool Silver" knob with a pale blue-gray and white EVA-00-inspired finish, an EVA-00 insignia, a Rei identity plate, and the engraved line "You Won't Die. I Will Protect You." Its chassis is heavier at 1.8 kg, and MelGeek has tuned its sound profile lower than the Asuka Edition's.
Both keyboards come fitted with Hall Effect magnetic switches with 0.2-4mm adjustable actuation, 0.01 mm Rapid Trigger, 8000 Hz polling, a leaf-spring gasket mount with five-layer acoustic dampening, and a distributed six-chip architecture (one master plus five zone controllers). You can configure it through MelGeek's browser-based Hive software; no background app is needed once settings save to onboard memory, and both work across Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Additionally, each edition ships with a USB-C cable, switch puller, seven extra keycaps, a protective case, and a two-year warranty. MelGeek describes both as a limited production run with individually serialized units and no planned restock.
