OLED gaming monitors have an undeniable set of advantages, especially for gamers. The same applies to ultrawide monitors, which have steadily been increasing in popularity. However, OLED enthusiasts who want even wider OLED monitors for whatever reason will definitely adore the 49-inch Samsung G9 (G93SC) gaming monitor, currently available for an all-time low price of just $900 on Amazon.

49-inch OLED behemoth with 240 Hz refresh rate and decent pixel density

The 49-inch curved gaming monitor sports an aspect ratio of 32:9, offering an extremely immersive experience in games which can afford such aspect ratios. Moreover, getting work done is also a pleasure, courtesy of the sheer amount of horizontal real estate which the G9 offers for keeping multiple windows open at the same time.

With a refresh rate of 240 Hz and a resolution of 5120 x 1440, the Odyssey G9 OLED offers a pixel dense as well as speedy gaming experience. Like most other OLEDs, the G9 boasts great color reproduction, inky blacks, and near-instant response times. All of these benefits undoubtedly make the G9 outstanding for gaming.

RTINGS' in-depth review of the Samsung G9 (G95SC, with smart features) OLED paints an extremely positive picture, revealing superb color accuracy, especially post calibration, and excellent coverage. Viewing angles are also great, although the G9's reflection handling and text clarity are nothing to write home about. The latter is due to the panel's triangular subpixel layout, which causes noticeable fringing and is a known issue affecting QD-OLEDs.

The Odyssey G9 may not be bright enough for everyone

In HDR, the Samsung G9 sports a peak brightness of just over 1,000 nits in 2% window, albeit its full screen peak brightness of just ~240 nits leaves a lot to be desired. Folks who like to work in brightly lit environments will definitely be left longing for a brighter panel. The black levels are also quite whacky in bright environments, making them look quite purple-ish. For gaming and content consumption in darker environments, however, the G9 does its job plenty well.
