Gaming monitors are a dime a dozen these days. However, finding a truly fantastic monitor at the right price from reliable sellers is quite challenging despite the aforementioned abundance. The Alienware AW3423DWF gaming monitor is undoubtedly an excellent product, and is now thankfully available for an all-time low price of just $500 once again on the digital shelves of Amazon.
With a resolution of 3440 x 1440, the 34-inch Alienware AW3423DWF OLED gaming monitor should be plenty sharp for gaming enthusiasts. The 165 Hz refresh rate is also more than sufficient for fast-paced games, although competitive gamers may be better off with dual-mode gaming monitors with truly ludicrous refresh rates.
Alienware AW3423DWF: Excellent picture quality with one major drawback
The Alienware's QD-OLED panel boasts inky blacks, near-instant response times and excellent color reproduction, making it great for not just gaming in HDR, but also productivity use. RTINGS' in-depth review of the Alienware gaming monitor confirms this, revealing truly excellent color accuracy and gaming performance.
However, the peak brightness in SDR mode is arguably quite disappointing, hitting just 237 nits. HDR brightness is acceptable, hitting almost 1,000 nits at a 2% window, allowing small details to pop.
Viewing angles, build quality, and reflection handling are all superb, with no room for any major complaints. Text clarity might be a deal-breaker for some people, which is to be expected from the panel's triangular subpixel arrangement, leading to noticeable fringing. In gaming and content creation/consumption workloads, this is obviously a non-issue.
The I/O on offer is pretty decent, packing the following ports:
- Dual DisplayPort 1.4
- HDMI 2.0
- Four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports
- USB-B upstream port
- Audio jack
At its current all-time low price on Amazon, the Alienware AW3423DWF OLED gaming monitor is undoubtedly an easy-to-recommend monitor for the vast majority of gamers with modest requirements. For who can look past the poor brightness and text clarity, the gaming monitor certainly has a lot going for it.
