LG is now accepting preorders for its 27GX790B-B Tandem OLED gaming monitor. The monitor first surfaced in China before getting an official release at CES earlier this year. It is one of the latest models built around LG Display’s Primary RGB Tandem panel. Specifically, it uses the 540Hz variant that can be boosted to 720Hz at a 720p resolution.
As part of its preorder promotion, LG is bundling a free 27-inch 240Hz gaming monitor, the 27G440A-B (currently valued at $249.99), for successful preorders placed through its website before Feb 1. LG has priced the 27GX790B-B at $999.99, which matches the price we spotted on Amazon a few weeks ago. Interestingly, the monitor is already available to order on Amazon, but the free monitor offer only applies to preorders made directly through LG.
LG 27GX790B-B Tandem OLED gaming monitor features
The 27GX790B-B pairs a 2560 x 1440 resolution with a 540Hz native refresh rate. Dropping the resolution to 720p boosts that to 720Hz, unlocking an even faster mode that is ideal for competitive shooters and racing games. The new panel also brings a noticeable jump in brightness, reaching up to 1,500 nits in HDR and 335 nits in SDR. Color reproduction is much better than on third gen WOLED monitors, while also using less power.
The main tradeoff is that running at 720p has a clear impact on image quality. Otherwise, it is a very promising gaming monitor, with support for G-Sync and FreeSync Premium Pro VRR and a 0.02 ms response time. It also includes DisplayPort 2.1 along with an HDMI 2.1 port for console gaming.
Free 27-inch LG Ultragear 27G440A-B monitor
The bundled 27G440A-B is a 1080p gaming monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate, making it a solid secondary display. It is a 27 inch IPS monitor with full G-Sync and FreeSync support, 99% coverage of the sRGB color space, and a fully adjustable stand. LG lists it at $299.99 on its website, but it is currently discounted to $249.99.
That said, LG plans to start shipping preorders on February 2. You can preorder the 27GX790B-B Tandem OLED gaming monitor directly from LG, or if you do not need the free monitor, Amazon currently has it in stock for the same $999.99.
