Major Philips Hue update arrives for smart security devices
Philips Hue is rolling out a major update for its Secure camera products. The last update for these devices arrived in May. Now, version 1.2.21 (801010) is bringing new features and improvements to the smart home devices.
The changelog states that the Secure camera update adds the Hue logo watermark to live view and overlays to video clips, and video clip response time is enhanced to make sure short-lived events are captured. People and package detection have been optimized, and the number of events incorrectly triggered due to rain and tree movement is said to be reduced. Other improvements are listed for Bluetooth connection speed, failure reports, firmware update speed, and stability. The release notes include the following line: “enabled adding a camera to a different Home without removing it from its existing Home using the ownership card.” While this feature provides a faster method for transferring a camera between Hue Bridges, it does not allow the camera to be linked to two Bridges simultaneously.
On top of this, there are bug fixes for connection problems and the live view. A problem with events recorded despite occurring outside of an activity zone triggering the devices is said to have been resolved, as are issues with false alarms or missed detections due to a prolonged period in sleep mode. Philips Hue recommends that customers ensure they have automatic updates enabled to keep their devices up to date.
