The latest DAC from Fosi Audio uses a round display that offers a number of practical features.
MagDac expands smartphones with both a 3.5 mm and a 4.4 mm headphone port, and can be magnetically attached to the back of a smartphone. Thanks to its round display, the hi-fi gadget offers some unusual features.

With the MD3 MagDac, Fosi Audio launches one of the most interesting external headphone amplifiers for smartphones to date. MagDac uses a high-quality aluminum chassis that can be attached to Qi2- or MagSafe-compatible smartphones such as a Apple iPhone 17 using a magnetic ring on the back.

The front of the Fosi Audio MD3 houses a round display that can show animated animals and three widgets in addition to the volume setting – a cube, a wine bottle for spinning bottles, and rock paper scissors. The orange button below the display switches between different screen modes. Buttons on the right-hand side control the volume. The USB-C port and both a 3.5 mm and a balanced 4.4 mm headphone jack are located on the bottom.

The integrated amplifier achieves an output of 80 mW for the 3.5 mm connection and 180 mW for the balanced port – enough for most in-ears and less demanding over-ear headphones. Fosi Audio uses four ESS ES9603Q amplifier chips and an ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M DAC, which can process music up to 32-bit at 384 kHz. The amplifier measures 70 x 45 x 12 millimeters and weighs 50 grams.

Pricing and availability

The Fosi Audio MD3 MagDac will be launched on May 25th. The manufacturer has not yet officially confirmed the price, rumors point to around $150. More details about the MD3 can be found on the official product page.
