Sony Xperia 1 VIII is not as thin as advertised

It happens almost regularly that smartphones and laptops are not as thin as they should be according to the manufacturer's spec sheets. The latest culprit is the Sony Xperia 1 VIII. Because according to the technical data from Sony, the flagship smartphone is 8.3 millimetres thick, but as a measurement by the leaker @OnLeaks shows, the device is actually 8.59 millimetres thick.
This makes the device 2.59 millimeters or 3.5 percent thicker than advertised. The photo from @OnLeaks already hints at the reason for this - the glass on the front and back protrudes a little beyond the metal frame of the Xperia 1 VIII. Sony's spec sheet should indicate the height at the thinnest point, i.e. that of the frame. In practice, 0.29 millimeters should hardly be noticeable, but this incident shows once again that a manufacturer's specifications should be viewed with caution.
Not least because most smartphone manufacturers still do not state how far the camera module protrudes from the body and therefore conceal how thick a smartphone is at its thickest point. Even when it comes to which smartphone is thinner in a comparison, the answer can be more difficult than you might think. With the Honor Magic V5 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7, for example, it all comes down to how you measure. With some smartphones, it is also true that variants in different colors are not equally thick, but often only the height of the thinnest version is advertised.
