The Sony A7r VI is Sony's highest resolution full-frame camera to date. With a completely new 66.8 megapixel sensor, a 30 percent more powerful battery, support for 8K video and an extremely high-resolution OLED viewfinder, the flagship camera offers first-class features.

The successor to the Sony A7r V ($3,298 on Amazon) is here, and will cost $600 more at launch. However, the Sony A7r VI should also offer several significant upgrades for the higher price. The most important new feature is the brand new 66.8 megapixel full-frame sensor, which is combined with a new Bionz XR2 image processor.

According to Sony, this sensor not only offers a higher resolution, but also a dynamic range of 16 stops and reduced image noise. The five-axis stabilization is said to enable up to 8.5 f-stops longer shutter speeds without a tripod. The sensor readout speed is increased by 5.6x compared to the previous model. This makes it possible to take up to 30 photos per second with full autofocus tracking and auto-exposure. The AI autofocus analyzes body posture to focus correctly even during fast-paced sports.

Videos can be recorded either in 8K resolution at 30 frames per second or in 4K at up to 120 fps. A new feature is that dual-gain recording is supported in order to optimize the dynamic range and image noise. The extremely bright OLED viewfinder with 9.44 million dots is carried over from the previous model. The Sony NP-SA100 battery, which is around 30 percent more powerful, should enable up to 710 photos to be taken on one charge (CIPA standard).

Pricing and availability

The Sony A7r VI (ILCE-7RM6) will be launched in June 2026 for a recommended retail price of $4,499.
