MSI has now started selling one of its 500 Hz OLED gaming monitors in the US after its debut earlier this year. Specifically, the monitor in question is the MAG 272QP X50 rather than the MPG 271QR QD-OLED X50 that should be available globally within the next few months.
While the pair share the same 500 Hz and 1440p QD-OLED panel from Samsung Display, the MAG 272QP X50 misses out on a few features that the MPG 271QR QD-OLED X50 contains to hit a lower price point. For instance, the MAG 272QP X50 has a DisplayPort 1.4a (HBR3) connection instead of DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR20), which means that it must use Display Stream Compression (DSC) to hit 1440p and 500 Hz simultaneously.
Also, the MAG 272QP X50 features a 15 W-capable USB Type-C port and lacks the USB Type-A or USB Type-B ports found in the MPG 271QR QD-OLED X50. Other differences include OLED Care 2.0 rather than OLED Care 3.0 technology and no AI Care Sensor to mitigate against OLED burn-in. The MAG 272QP X50 still offers 0.03 ms GtG response times aided by AMD FreeSync Premium Pro dynamic refresh rate technology, though.
Currently, the MAG 272QP X50 is available for $749.99 from Amazon US, Best Buy and Newegg or MSI directly. At the time of publication, all retailers should start shipping MSI's new 500 Hz monitor by the middle of the month. Please see MSI's website and the datasheet below for more hardware details.
