The rollout of MIUI updates is more complicated than rival versions of Android, but Xiaomi has excelled itself with the Redmi Note 9 series. Xiaomi splits its MIUI update schedules into multiple branches as Huawei does, so it sometimes takes months before an OS upgrade like MIUI 12 reaches all variants of one device.
The Redmi Note 9 series is a special case, though. Xiaomi sells two editions of the Redmi Note 9 Pro, of which one has already started receiving MIUI 12. As we reported last month, Xiaomi began issuing its latest OS to the variant codenamed curtana, a device that it only sells as the Redmi Note 9 Pro in India. According to Piunikaweb, Xiaomi will begin upgrading joyeuse - the global version of the Redmi Note 9 Pro - from October 20.
October 20 will also be the date from when Xiaomi starts upgrading the global edition of the Redmi Note 9S. To date, only the Turkish variant of the device has received MIUI 12, leaving the global, European and Russian variants in need of Xiaomi's latest OS.
Additionally, Xiaomi apparently plans to commence the MIUI 12 rollout for the Redmi 9 from the same date. Again, this does not apply to the Indian version of the Redmi 9, that Xiaomi codenamed cattail. Instead, Xiaomi supposedly plans to upgrade the variant codenamed lancelot, which Xiaomi sells as the Redmi 9 internationally.
