The MINISFORUM UM480 is the entry-level Venus-series variant, packing a Ryzen 7 4800U rather than the 7 5800H of the top-end UM580. Nevertheless, it may still make a worthwhile option for a buyer looking for a more cost-effective new mini PC.
The UM480 has the same compact form-factor as the rest of the Venus series, weighing 996 grams (g) as a barebones system in this case. It has 2 SODIMM slots for up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM and 1 M.2 2280 bays for PCIe SSDs of up to 512GB in size.
The UM480 has dual HDMI 2.0 ports, although its rear-facing USB type-C port also supports DisplayPort 1.4 specs so that up to 3 4K monitors (albeit at 60Hz each) can be connected to the mini PC.
There is also 1 more type-C port to the front (next to its 3.5mm jack), although it is data-only in that case. The MINISFORUM Venus UM480 Is now listed at €339 (~US$329) on minisforum.de as a barebones PC; at €469 for one pre-built with 16GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, or at €539 for a 32GB/512GB SKU.
However, it is only shipping from Hong Kong at the time of writing, which might push its delivery times to 23 days compared to up to 7 from MINISFORUM's German warehouse.
