A lucky Redditor has struck gold, or a lot of NAND Flash memory. An unexpected Amazon delivery landed a Redditor with two full boxes of Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB NVMe SSDs, estimated at over $6,000.
Redditor 1trollzor1 shared their story just in time for Christmas on the r/pcmasterrace subreddit about their Amazon delivery. The redditor initially expected to receive two new Samsung 9100 PRO 2 TB SSDs, which are solid choices for their speed and long-term reliability, and cost $250 each.
However, he received two whole boxes of Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB NVMe SSDs, which he reports are worth over $6,000. He posted a photo of multiple 9100 PRO NVMes on his gaming desk and chair, with the caption “Brothers, I have been blessed.”
From the looks of it, the user was preparing to upgrade their PC when they were greeted with a windfall of SSDs. They also lamented over their problem and said, “My steak is too juicy and my lobster too buttery. Whatever will I do?”
The Redditor is now confused about what to do with the excess inventory of SSDs he’s got in stock for free. He floated some ideas, such as building a 9100 PRO all-SSD NAS system for home use or selling the bulk inventory to fund new projects.
However, feeling slightly guilty about receiving the extra SSDs for free, the user reached out to Amazon customer support to confirm whether he could keep them or return them to the company.
Amazon customer support confirmed he could keep the extra Samsung 9100 PROs. This is because of a law passed by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, which states that recipients aren’t obliged to pay for or return any items they didn’t request.
What could have been a logistics headache for the redditor turned into a significant score, making their Christmas all the merrier.
Fellow users on the subreddit urged the Redditor to verify the drives’ authenticity using Samsung’s Magician software. In contrast, others looked back on similar shipping orders, such as receiving extra bulk items.
However, some people wonder whether this is just a marketing stunt or a staged post, given the recent surge in prices for high-capacity memory and RAM due to supply chain issues and manufacturers prioritizing higher-margin enterprise customers.
