Lexar touts the NQ780 as a new SSD that plays as hard as it works, and further implies that it is the next ideal upgrade for a laptop that is used for business as well as gaming with its minimal, low-profile build and Intelligent Power Control features. The M.2 2280 drive also boasts SLC cache technology intended to reduce latency and enhance performance.
The NQ780 might be rated for about half the read and write speed of its new, up-to-14,000MB/s read/13,000MB/s write NM1090 Pro sibling at its best, but has a much better starting price and does not require the purchase of any other PCIe 5.0-compatible hardware.
On that note, the NM1090 Pro has finally been released to Amazon as a 1TB SKU - at a price of $179.99, compared to $79.99 for the same SKU of the NQ780.
The PCIe 4 drive is also $149.99 at 2TB (whereas the NM1090 Pro is currently $269.99 at the same size), and is also available in 4TB flavor (for $289.99) whereas Lexar's "professional" PCIe 5.0 alternative is not.
