Lexar is a pretty well-known storage manufacturer who is now offering a brand-new SSD officially called the Professional NM1090 Pro. This PCIe 5.0 SSD is backwards compatible with older systems featuring PCIe 4 and older versions of the protocol and comes in the traditional M.2 2280 form factor, which makes it suitable for a wide range of PCs, laptops and even some consoles. However, it will not fit into more compact devices such as handhelds that only support shorter M.2 2242 or M.2 2230 modules.
Either way, Lexar advertises very high transfer speeds that vary slightly depending on the model variant. More precisely, all SKUs of the new NM1090 Pro have sequential read speeds of up to 14,000MB/s, but only the 2TB and 4TB SSDs can write at 13,000MB/s, while the 1TB version maxes out at 10,000MB/s. Furthermore, the 4TB module can read up to 2,100,000 and write up to 1,700,000 IOPS. The SSD connects via four PCIe 5.0 lanes.
The 4TB NM1090 Pro is also slightly thicker and measures 3.9 instead of 3.6 millimeters, and there is a separate version that sports a preinstalled heatsink. Moreover, the 6nm controller should contribute to lower temperatures and the SSD is equipped with 4GB DRAM and 3D TLC NAND. In addition to the DRAM, Lexar has opted for an SLC Dynamic Cache. Thus far, Amazon US has only listed the 2TB heatsink version of the Lexar NM1090 Pro for an MSRP of $299. At the time of writing, a 6% discount takes that price down to $281.
