Every two to three years, Lenovo gives its business laptops of the ThinkPad series a new design - typically. The Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 2 is an example: After two generations, the thinner, lighter premium T series adopts a reworked design.
The handling of this years "regular" T series Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 and ThinkPad T15 Gen 2 is quite different. The less expensive models, which are probably among the most sold ThinkPad laptops, still use the tried and tested design of the 2019 ThinkPad T490.
Keeping the old design does not necessarily have to be a bad thing, as T14 and T15 Gen 2 keep the keyboards with 1.8 mm key travel. Without a redesign, all the ports of last years version are also still around.
The two new models are not without new features. Both the ThinkPad T15 and T14 Gen 2 will be offered in the new color "Storm Grey", though in this case, only the screen lid is made out of aluminum. The optional Nvidia GeForce MX450 replaces the MX330 used in the T15 and T14 Gen 1 (available on Amazon). It will be paired with Intel Tiger Lake CPUs - AMD Ryzen 5000 processors are going to be offered in the T14 Gen 2 (T15 is Intel only).
Part of the platform Intel update are Thunderbolt 4 ports and Wi-Fi 6E. The ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 AMD gets a different upgrade: For the first time, it will be offered with 4K UHD screens. This is not the only change in the screen department: The ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 will not be offered with TN HD (1,366 x 768) screens anymore and the FHD LCDs of the ThinkPad T15 Gen 2 now reach 300 instead of 250 cd/m².
Lenovo ThinkPad T14 & T15 Gen 2: pricing & availability
