Housework consumes a large portion of our free time, but LG claims its new laundry-folding robot can help reclaim those hours. The company displayed its CLOiD robot at CES 2026 this week, and the machine promises to handle chores ranging from folding clothes to serving food.
It features a surprisingly cute head unit, containing a display, cameras, and sensors that help it move around your living space. Mechanically, the robot relies on two arms with fully articulated joints at the shoulder, elbow, and wrist, along with hands that possess independently moving fingers. These features grant it the skill needed to handle delicate items like a croissant or a plate of food.
Its base uses wheels for movement, similar to what we see with existing robot vacuums, to glide through your rooms. However, the arms can only grasp objects at knee level and higher, meaning socks on the floor will stay there until you pick them up. LG showcased the robot performing various household duties to demonstrate its versatility.
From the demo, we can see the robot starting laundry cycles and, notably, folding the clothes afterward. Another demonstration showed the robot standing next to a person during a home workout, although the exact assistance it provided remains unclear.
From the look of things, the CLOiD currently serves as a concept rather than a product ready for store shelves. LG states it intends to continue developing home robots with practical functions and forms for housework while integrating this robotics technology into other appliances. Your dream of a completely automated home moves one step closer with this announcement, even if the release date remains in the future.
