LG announces US availability of 2019 OLED TVs - and that they will be super expensive

LG's US division has released the price structure for its latest generation of its OLED TVs. These advanced panels, which had been showcased at CES 2019, are powered by the second-generation Alpha9 processor. Those chips enable the ThinQ AI with which the Korean OEM seeks to build value with this year.

These new OLED TVs are also enhanced with Dolby Vision in order to faciltate HDR on these panels. This is paired with Dolby Atmos for potentially superior audio. LG claims that the Alpha9 processor also creates virtual 5.1 channel sound from the TVs' 2 physical channels.  

The devices also come with inbuilt Google Assistant, as indicated at CES. However, LG has also stated that they will also support Amazon Alexa, Siri and Apple HomeKit later this year. These assistants can be accessed via the LG Magic Remote, which has a microphone for remote, voice-enabled TV control. 

The new flatscreens will come in 3 separate lines: C9; the E9 'Glass' series, and the W9 SIGNATURE (or 'Wallpaper') TVs. The smallest C9s (at 55 and 65 inches) and 65-inch E9 will be the first to be available. LG has stated that they will be released in April, and will start at US$2,499 for the 55-inch C9 variant. Its 65-inch sibling will cost $3,499, whereas the first E9 will be priced at $4,299.

They will be followed by a 77-inch C9 (at $6,999) in May, and thereafter by the 55-inch E9 ($3,299) and the 65-inch W9 ($6,999) in June. Those models will be joined by the highest-end W9 - the 77-inch 2019 wallpaper TV - at this point, which will be a grand total of $12,999.
