KaiOS is the most prominent alternative to either iOS or Android on mobile devices. Its CEO, Sebastien Codeville, has just given an interview outlining this platform's directions and goals for the immediate future. They include greater functionality, more form factors and new markets.

KaiOS is now widely regarded as the 3rd most widespread mobile OS on Earth. It is popular among those in need of very basic (or, often, very affordable) phones; those who really like button phones; or those who like devices with a nostalgic appeal such as the Nokia 8110 (4G). KaiOS' CEO, Sebastien Codeville, recently gave an interview to Android Authority, in which the immediate future of the 'alternative phone OS' was discussed.

The system is potentially valuable to devices that cannot access Android or iOS. However, it still has some disadvantages, such as the inability to copy and paste data within a device's UI. Codeville has asserted that his software division is working to address this, however. In addition, KaiOS phones may also gain multitasking and tabbed browsing functionalities in the near future.

These features may even apply to devices with less than 1GB of RAM - oh yes, they're still out there, mostly in feature-phone form. On that note, Codeville also made reference to an increased panel of form-factors for the OS' users of 2019 and beyond. The CEO also alluded to plans to expand the reach of KaiOS into African, more Asian, Middle Eastern and US markets.

All of these new attributes, together with the new MediaTek 3G/4G chipsets destined for relevant devices in 2019, should make the KaiOS platform closer to, and more competitive with, those of smartphones in the future.
