JBL has announced the Junior Free headphones for children. The open-ear model is designed to grow with children while giving parents the ability to monitor and manage them. The Junior Free has an MSRP of €69.99 and will be available in Europe from November in Purple, Teal and Peach.
The Bluetooth headphones can connect to up to two devices simultaneously, while parents can monitor their usage using the JBL Headphones App, which logs both time and volume. The data helps parents understand when excessive use and volume occur, and they can proactively limit both in the app. Activation of the JBL Safe Sound volume limiter keeps volume levels under 85 dB to protect hearing.
The earphones can survive minor exposure to water splashes thanks to their IPX4 rating. The battery is rated for up to 10 hours of runtime, and it can quickly add 3 hours of runtime in 10 minutes, according to the company. The physical buttons are designed to be easy for children to use, and the headband is flexible to fit growing heads.
The packaging can be reused as a headphone stand, and it comes with several decorative stickers.
Parents interested in an open-ear model for themselves might consider the JBL Sense sold on Amazon.
