Intel says Arrow Lake launch 'didn't go as planned,' promises to fix performance
Robert Hallock, Intel's vice president and general manager, has talked about the recently launched Arrow Lake desktop lineup. On the podcast with Hot Hardware, the Intel executive admitted that the launch didn't go as planned. As we noted in our Core Ultra 9 285K review, while the lineup gains in terms of efficiency, it doesn't quite match up to the competition in terms of performance, especially in gaming.
To be more specific, we found the top-end Intel Arrow Lake desktop processor to fall behind the Core i9 14900K from Raptor Lake Refresh (curr. $438.41 on Amazon). Hallock says that this level of performance isn't something the company expected but promised that Intel wants to "make it right."
The Intel executive adds that the Arrow Lake processors' "bones are solid," and the company has determined the factors responsible for "wild unintended effects." Hallock was also frank about the performance issues and said they are not happening because of Microsoft or anyone else.
On the bright side, Hallock promised that Intel has plans to offer a "comprehensive update" explaining the issues and the reasons behind them by the end of November or early December. The company will also talk about what steps will be taken to fix the performance of the lineup.
