Intel Core Ultra 9 285K pushed to to 7.4 GHz in new overclocking record
While Intel's Arrow Lake-based Core Ultra 9 285K might not offer much in the way of gaming performance, the CPU is excels in some productivity workloads. It is also very overclocking friendly. Elmor, a record-setting overclocker, has pushed a Core Ultra 9 285K to 7.488 GHz just days after launch.
It was done on an Asus ROG Maximus Z890 Apex motherboard with a 27-phase VRM and a liquid nitrogen pot that was apparently "designed with generative AI technology from Diabatix". Along with a new clock speed record for Arrow Lake, overclockers also pushed the Core Ultra 9 285K to new limits on other synthetic benchmarks such as Cinebench and 3DMark.
Of course, this record is an early one and will likely be bested in the coming months. That said, it might be difficult for Arrow Lake to catch up with Arrow Lake due to Intel's focus on power efficiency. Elmor pushed a pre-production Core i9-13900K to 8.82 GHz. The current world record stands at 9.117 GHz (Core i9-14900KS), which is, once again, held by Elmor.
