Initial leak points to Kirin 985 for the Honor V30
According to a new leak allegedly shared on the social-media platform Weibo, the Huawei sub-brand Honor is working on one of its next premium phones already. Based on the typical naming structure of its predecessors, it will be called the V30 (or possibly View 30 in some markets). This phone will incorporate 1 of 2 new flagship SoCs now known to be finished products at its parent company: the Kirin 985.
Should this processor be anything like its immediate precursor, the 980, Honor may have access to impressively fast multi-core speeds, performance and a dedicated NPU for AI-related functions. Should the new leak prove accurate, the Kirin 985 may also be paired with a 5G modem in the Honor V30. This dovetails with an earlier report that claims all Huawei and Honor devices will have this tech by default in the future.
This starting-gun of Honor V30 leaks also hints at the Sony IMX600 sensor for the device. However, this could be seen as a step backward: the Honor V20 is capable of 48MP photography, whereas the IMX600 is associated with a 40MP resolution. However, this putative spec may be subject to change: the tipster involved asserts that Honor has until December 2019 to release the V30.
