Mobile photography: The Honor View 20 beats the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, but not in a DxOMark test
The Huawei P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro are two impressive handsets for those into mobile photography. According to DxOMark, they provide the same level of image quality when using the main camera setup, but the Mate 20 Pro scores a bit higher in the selfie department. Now, a review by Android Authority comes to claim that "the Honor View 20 beats the Huawei Mate 20 Pro" and it might not be that far from the truth, although it is a bit exaggerated.
Edgar Cervantes took the Honor View 20 for a spin and rated its mobile photography capabilities with a solid 8.5/10. According to his review, the strongest points of this handset's cameras are the amazing detail and realistic colors it can provide, alongside the impressive level of low-light performance and its image stabilization capabilities. The negatives he mentioned are the quality of the shots provided by the front shooter, the unimpressive dynamic range of many regular shots, but also its lackluster HDR shots.
Although the Honor View 20 will certainly rank behind the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and the P20 Pro in DxOMark's tests, it would be very interesting to see it go through these tests. The Xiaomi Pocophone F1 has visited DxOMark at the end of January and turned out to be an excellent device for its price. Now, we just need to wait for the Honor View 20 to do the same.
Do you think that the Honor View 20 can hit the 100 DxOMark Mobile score? Would that be great or just Huawei shooting itself in the foot by coming up with a low-price flagship that came out better than it should have? Let us know what you think about the Honor View 20, especially if you have one since there is also the availability issue that should be taken into account when comparing the handsets of the various Chinese sub-brands to those of the parent companies.
