IKEA announces PARASOLL and VALLHORN affordable smart home sensor availability
IKEA has announced the availability of the PARASOLL Open/Close Sensor and VALLHORN Motion Sensor. The new smart home gadgets, initially spotted in FCC filings earlier this year, will launch in Denmark in January. You can use the PARASOLL sensor to detect if windows or doors are open, helping you to secure your home.
The VALLHORN Motion Sensor can trigger smart lights, which could be helpful at night or reduce your energy consumption. Both sensors must be connected to the DIRIGERA hub to enable controls and notifications via the IKEA Home Smart app. This also lets you link the gadgets to other smart home devices using Google Home, Amazon Alexa or Apple HomeKit. The products have a minimal design, with rounded edges and a plain white casing. IKEA says it has intentionally designed the sensors to blend into your home, making them less noticeable. The PARASOLL and VALLHORN are powered by AAA batteries and fixed in place with an adhesive strip or screw.
The IKEA PARASOLL will go on sale in January in Denmark for DKK 79 (~US$11), while the VALLHORN will retail for DKK 69 (~US$10). When the devices will arrive in other countries and at what price remains unclear. IKEA has also announced the BADRING sensor, a smart home gadget to detect water leaks in your home. This product will launch in April; the price has yet to be disclosed.
