IKEA BADRING: new water leak sensor for smart home revealed
The IKEA BADRING water leak sensor has been revealed. The new smart home gadget can generate an audible alert when a leak is detected and trigger a smartphone notification via the IKEA Home Smart app to ensure you receive the alert even if you are not home. You could use the gadget in your bathroom or utility room, monitoring various pipes and hoses.
The BADRING will be compatible with the IKEA DIRIGERA hub, which will be required to activate smart notifications. The hub also allows you to connect the gadget to Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit systems, in theory allowing you to control the device with voice commands. The sensor appears to be a small, rectangular device with a plastic casing. Further details, such as its measurements and alert settings, are yet to be announced.
The IKEA BADRING water leak sensor will launch in Denmark in April; the pricing and rollout to other markets remain unclear. The new gadget was unveiled alongside further details of the PARASOLL and VALLHORN smart home sensors, which are due to launch in January for DKK 79 (~US$11) and DKK 69 (~US$10), respectively. IKEA said these new sensors were a "natural extension" to its smart home range to help customers secure their houses.
