Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro receives long-awaited software update with various changes and optimisations
Huawei has released a new firmware update to the Watch GT 2 Pro, this time in Europe. Distributed as firmware version 11.0.8.26, the update has been available for the Watch GT 2 Pro for a few months in China. As Huawei Blog's screenshots below show, firmware version 11.0.8.26 is approximately a 93 MB download, which you download through the Huawei Health app.
Arguably, firmware version 11.0.8.26 is the most significant update for the Watch GT 2 Pro in several months, which its changelog underlines. For some reason, while Huawei has brought Petal Maps to the smartwatch, this feature is unavailable if you have your Watch GT 2 Pro paired to an iOS device. Additionally, Huawei has added support for low heart rate reminders when sleeping, albeit only for models with ECG capabilities. Given that Huawei decided against releasing an ECG-capable Watch GT 2 Pro in Europe, it remains to be seen why it included this change in firmware version 11.0.8.26.
Moreover, Huawei claims to have optimised sleep monitoring and system stability in certain situations. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen whether Huawei will enable Petal Maps for the Watch GT 2 Pro when paired to an iOS device. Also, Huawei has not confirmed how long support will last for its ageing smartwatch. Released in October 2020, the Watch GT 2 Pro has now been superseded by the Watch GT 3 Pro. Announced last month in China, Huawei has not announced if it will bring the Watch GT 3 Pro to Europe; various leaks state that a global launch is on the cards, though.
