Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2 launches with a brighter tandem OLED screen than the iPad Pro
Huawei has unveiled a flagship tablet for the Chinese market. The Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2 is the Chinese manufacturer's answer to Apple's iPad Pro (2024) (available for $1,197 on Amazon). Like the iPad Pro, it comes with a dual-layer OLED panel a.k.a. Tandem OLED. However, while Apple's tablet has a peak brightness of 1,600 nits and a refresh rate of 120Hz, the MatePad Pro 12.2 maxes out at 2,000 nits and has a 144Hz refresh rate.
The new screen, which is 12.2 inches and has a 2.8K (2800 × 1840) resolution, not only brings improvements in brightness levels but also has ultra-high contrast. It also has a special layer that Huawei claims reduces glare from ambient light by up to 99% while also protecting the eyes.

Huawei is keeping a tight lip on the processor powering the tablet, but it will be available with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage. There is a 13MP camera on the back along with an 8MP ultrawide angle camera while the front facing camera is another 8MP camera.
The MatePad Pro 12.2 comes with a 10,100mAh battery and ships with a 100W power adapter that can charge it from empty to full in about 55 minutes. It has support for reverse wired charging (7.5W max) and the Type-C port is USB 3.1 Gen 1, although the included cable supports USB 2.0.
Alongside the MatePad Pro 12.2 comes new accessories such as the M-Pencil (3rd generation) which has 10,000 levels of pressure sensitivity and comes with the debut of a new drawing app developed with the China Academy of Art. There's also a new keyboard with a groove where the stylus can be stored and charged. Other features are quad speakers and microphones, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
The MatePad Pro starts at CNY 4299 (~$601) for the base model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. This base model doesn't have a tandem OLED panel, but if you want the display with tandem OLED, the price starts at CNY 4899 (~$685). There's no info regarding a global release.
