Honor just launched two new entry-level smartphones with MediaTek chipsets
Honor has expanded its X series portfolio by launching two new phones, X5b and X5b Plus. Both smartphones are already available for purchase in several Middle East markets. Honor’s new entry-level smartphones have more similarities than differences. But, the X5b Plus is slightly better than the vanilla variant thanks to a couple of upgrades.
The Honor X5b and X5b Plus features a 6.56-inch LCD display with HD resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. Both phones are powered by MediaTek Helio G36 chipset paired with up to 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage. This is an entry-level chipset from MediaTek that’s been specifically designed for entry-level smartphones.
Furthermore, both phones have the same 5,200mAh battery. As far as memory is concerned, the X5b comes with a single 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, while the X5b Plus variant ships with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. Both have micro-SD card slots which allows you to further expand the storage up to 1TB.
Besides the battery, the Honor X5b Plus has a 50MP main sensor on the back. In comparison, the base model X5b features a smaller 13MP main camera. However, both have the same secondary 0.8MP macro shooter.
Despite having most of the similarities between these two phones (design and specs-wise), the price difference is slightly high. The Honor X5b variant starts at $80 for the 4GB/64GB memory option, while the X5b Plus costs SAR 399 ($106) for the 4/128GB memory. Honor offers two color options for both phones: Flowing Blue and Flowing Back. There’s no word on when exactly these two smartphones will be released in other markets.
