The first RTX 5060 laptops are now seeing wide availability and Best Buy is already offering solid discounts on select models like the HP Omen 16. The exact model number is 16-ap0053dx/BP1Q1UA#ABA, which has an MSRP of $1,579.99, but it is now available with a $300 discount down to $1,279.99.
Unlike the desktop version of the RTX 5060 that was mostly criticized at launch, the laptop version should still be a decent value option especially with the aforementioned discount. Raw performance is just slightly improved over the older RTX 4060, but it can benefit from the new DLSS 4 upscaler with multi-frame gen that should boost performance significantly, despite being limited to 8 GB VRAM.
The only downside for this model appears to be the 16-inch IPS screen that comes with a now deprecated 1920 x 1200 resolution, as well as a relatively dim panel capable of only 300 nits max brightness and a subpar 62.5% sRGB color gamut. At least the refresh rate is decent at 144 Hz.
Otherwise, the specs are actually great for the value. AMD’s Ryzen 9 8940HX integrates fast Zen 4 cores plus an NPU for AI tasks and it is complemented nicely by 32 GB DDR5-5200 RAM along with a 1 TB PCie 4.0 NVMe SSD.
Port selection does not feature a USB4 connector, but still offers decent connectivity with a USB-C 3.2 10 Gbps full feature, a USB-A 3.2 10 Gbps, 2x USB-A 3.2 5 Gbps, HDMI 2.1 video out, Gigabit NIC jack and an audio combo jack. Wireless connectivity is offered through a Wi-Fi 5E + BT 5.3 card. There is also an FHD webcam with physical privacy shutter and the keyboard features 4 independently-customizable RGB zones.
This model is slightly bulkier with a 1 inch (2.55 cm) profile in order to accommodate the necessary cooling system for the RTX 5060. As such, it also weighs 5.42 lbs (2.45 kg) including the 83 Wh battery.
