HP's changed naming scheme is allowing it to charge a hefty premium for its new 14-inch business 2-in-1. We take a look at what the EliteBook X Flip G1i offers compared to its predecessor, the Elite x360 1040 G11 2-in-1.

You're going to be drawn to a machine like this if you're a professional who needs to work on the move and finds value in the configurable form factor – whether you're presenting, viewing content, using it as a secondary display, or just want the option. Although a little on the weighty side, it's a compact and sufficiently stylish device with an excellent build quality and premium feel. Thankfully, if you're working in sensitive areas in particular, the mobility that this machine encourages is also met with a raft of protective and safeguarding features that tries to give you the freedom and peace of mind to work confidently and capably while on the move, without looking over your shoulder; indeed, there's a feature for that. The display that we tested (a basic 1,900 x 1,200-pixel panel) punched above its weight, so we'd expect good things if you wanted to upgrade to the higher-quality version. The hardware, however, is a little bit of a letdown. That's common with mobile Lunar Lake processors, but the trade-off is better power efficiency with a battery life that will last a full working day, and then some. Overall, there's nothing particularly standout – but nothing particularly worrisome about this solid and sophisticated enterprise laptop that will put even the most paranoid professional's mind at ease.

The new EliteBook X Flip G1i is one of the most rounded compact business laptops currently on the market. Strong points include the excellent webcam, trio of USB-C ports, long battery life, impressively engineered keyboard and touchpad and the bright non-reflective IPS display. The only failing worth mentioning is the slow SSD write speeds, but the average user is unlikely to notice that. At under £1,700, it’s good value too when compared to the Dell Pro 13 Premium, which is the most obvious competitor we’ve tested recently.

When you’re paying nearly $3,000 for specs you might expect to find in a $1,000 laptop, you probably should expect that the system will pull out all the stops and make the most of what it packs in. While the HP EliteBook X Flip G1i performs decently, it still lags behind substantially cheaper systems in many key areas. I love the display, 1200p and bezel-flanked though it may be. But a screen alone won’t save this system from being tough to recommend. If it were hugely discounted, I’d hop on it, but as long as the Yoga 9i and ProArt PX13 are cheaper, they’ll make far more sensible buys for folks who don’t need the enterprise extras but need more performance or way more performance (at the cost of battery life), respectively.

Imagine you are the CEO of a company and searching for a laptop? A lightweight design for easy travel with premium looks, a bright and vibrant display, the power to run everyday apps and legacy programmes, long battery life, an excellent webcam for video calls, and strong security to keep sensitive information private. If I told you that the HP EliteBook X Flip G1i 14 meets all these criteria, it might change how you imagine a business notebook. After using the EliteBook X Flip G1i 14 for the past few days, I felt it was truly ‘CEO material’ — it has everything a high-flying business executive could wish for. Here’s my review.

The new EliteBook X Flip G2i 14 makes several changes from the EliteBook X Flip G1i 14 including Intel Panther Lake options and a new integrated stylus holder. However, at $3000 or more, the convertible doesn't come cheap.

All in all, this year’s HP EliteBook X Flip G2i was a significant upgrade over its predecessor in almost every way. From battery life to even the little details like storing the stylus in the chassis, this was a fantastic improvement by HP, that I was thrilled to have the opportunity to check out.

If I was in the market for a new laptop, I'd be strongly tempted by the HP EliteBook X Flip G2i. The practical and versatile 2-in-1 design, alluring array of features, killer stylus/display combo—this laptop ticks nearly every box for me. Of course, I'd still ultimately move on, because I'm not willing to pay extra for enterprise features I honestly don't need, and I also value a laptop that doesn't give me a little anxiety about whether a charger is nearby every few hours.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
