Google accidentally reveals when Apple will officially adopt RCS on iPhone
Apple made a surprise announcement in November of 2023, confirming that RCS will drop on the iPhone in 2024. However, the announcement didn’t include the details on when iOS will adopt the service. Well, it seems Google didn’t want us to be in the dark for too long.
As spotted by 9to5Google, the official Android website now has a new page that’s dedicated to Google Messages. The page talks about the service and all the features that it brings to the table. Among all the sections, there’s one called “Better messaging for all,” in which Google said, “Apple has announced it will be adopting RCS in the fall of 2024.”
Google further describes that once Apple adopts RCS for the iPhone, it will “mean a better messaging experience for everyone.” However, it seems like the section is no longer there on the web page. Google may have possibly removed it because the information wasn’t meant to be shared this early on. The good part is that 9to5Google did take a screenshot of the section, which is attached below for you to check out.
Nonetheless, if the info that Google shared briefly on the web page holds true, it would mean that RCS will almost certainly be available in iOS 18. For those wondering, Apple is set to introduce the iOS 18 during WWDC 2024, which is expected to happen in June. As for the public release, it will be in September, coinciding with the release of the iPhone 16 series.
