Samsung to ditch native messaging app for Google Messages, starting with the Z Fold6 and Z Flip6
A big change is coming to messaging on Galaxy phones. Samsung is ditching its own Messages app in favor of Google Messages on new devices in some regions, starting with the foldable Z Fold6 and Flip6. Two years ago, Google Messages started becoming the default option for the Galaxy S22 series, so this decision makes more sense, all things considered.
Why the switch? Google's pushing RCS messaging, which offers features like better group chats and read receipts. While Samsung Messages supports RCS, Google Messages offers a more complete experience.
Samsung states that Google Messages will bring "a new and enhanced experience to express your emotions, making communication safe and fun." It's unclear if this update is global, but some regions like Europe might still get the Samsung app pre-installed.
Don't worry if you prefer Samsung Messages – users can still download it from the Galaxy Store, though some features might be missing. The new Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6 are available for pre-order now. Samsung will start shipping these and other new devices on July 24th.
