Google Pixel 7 Pro gives Apple iPhone 14 Pro pangs of depression and jealousy in new TV adverts
Google has released a series of adverts pitting the Pixel 7 Pro against the iPhone 14 Pro, which will remain one-half of Google and Apple's flagship smartphone series until the autumn. Unsurprisingly, the Pixel 7 Pro comes out on top, with the personified iPhone 14 Pro jealous of its rival's features like Astrophotography mode, Magic Eraser or a free VPN via Google One.
In short, the adverts are light hearted and poke fun at the rival between Android and iPhone. However, two of the videos imply that the Pixel 7 Pro has better battery life than the iPhone 14 Pro, the opposite of which we observed in our tests. Despite having a 56% larger battery capacity, 5,000 mAh versus 3,200 mAh, the Pixel 7 Pro averaged 52% worse runtimes than the iPhone 14 Pro. While battery life at idle and under load skews these averages, the iPhone 14 Pro also lasted 15% and 19% longer in our H.264 video streaming and Wi-Fi battery life tests, respectively.
Still, the Pixel 7 Pro can reverse wirelessly charge another device. The iPhone 14 Pro cannot keep up with the 30x digital zoom that the Pixel 7 Pro offers, either. It is also worth noting that Apple provides iCloud Private Relay, its VPN service, as part of its US$0.99 per month iCloud+ subscription. You can watch all of Google's new #BestPhonesForever advert series in the embedded videos below, where it also teases the advantages of using a Pixel Fold, which it has not started shipping yet.
