Sony released its first-party exclusive God of War back in April, and the title went on to break a number of records, even selling 3.1 million units in its first three days on store shelves. Apparently, that isn't where the journey ends for Sony's biggest release of the year so far, as it has now been crowned as the fastest-selling PlayStation title of all time.
According to NPD, God of War has sold more copies than any other PlayStation title ever in the three months after hitting store shelves. Data on the unit sales of video games in the US in June shows just how well God of War has performed commercially, as it was the second best-selling title that month, only behind Mario Tennis Ace.
Of course, while this a strong performance by a game that's billed to receive a number of GoTY awards, it's also important to note that it has only been possible due to the lack of truly comparable titles since then, a fact that will change when Spiderman is released next month.
Meanwhile, according to Sony's quarterly sales report, 3.1 PS4 console units were shipped over April, May, and June—slightly down from the 3.1 million shipped over the same period last year, but up from the 2.5 million sold in the first three months of 2018.
