Gearbest confirms Xiaomi Mi TV Stick with 4K HDR and Android TV ahead of imminent release
While Xiaomi has now started releasing its Mi TV range outside of China, it has also released the Mi Box S for those who do not want to upgrade their existing TV. Powered by Android TV, the Mi Box S is a reasonably compact unit that supports 4K streaming and has integrated Chromecast functionality. However, Xiaomi looks to be replacing the Mi Box S with something even more compact.
Leaked by @Sudhanshu1414 last month, the Mi TV Stick has now appeared on Gearbest where it has been listed for US$79.99. Gearbest's "flash sale" implies that the Mi TV Stick may retail for US$100.00, which would make it about 25% more expensive the Mi Box S.
However, the Mi TV Stick and Mi Box S share practically identical specifications, with both featuring 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of eMMC flash storage. The 93.9 x 35.5 x 20.3 mm dongle features a slightly newer Amlogic S905 Y2 quad-core processor though and runs Android 9.0 Pie out of the box rather than Android 8.1 Oreo as the Mi Box S does. According to the Gearbest listing, the Mi TV Stick also supports 4K HDR, DTS-HD audio, 802.11 ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 and has a USB 3.0 Type-C port for charging.
Gearbest has not stated when the Mi TV Stick will be available to order or when it will ship. With that said, the roadmap leaked last month by @Sudhanshu1414 suggests that Xiaomi may announce it before the end of the month.
