Garmin update targets navigation crashes and stability issues across outdoor smartwatches

Garmin is rolling out a new software update across the extended Fenix 7 family—encompassing the Fenix 7, 7X (Fenix 7X Pro on Amazon), and 7S (in both Base and Pro editions), as well as closely related models including the Epix series, Enduro 2, Quatix 7, and MARQ Gen 2. Because firmware version 27.15 is currently in beta testing, tactical and aviation variants such as the Tactix 7 and MARQ Aviator Gen 2 are excluded from this release. As is standard for Garmin beta builds, ECG recording and automated analysis are temporarily disabled, meaning users should carefully weigh the trade-offs before opting in.

Compared to the current stable firmware (v26.09), version 27.15 introduces no new features or major functional overhauls. Instead, the concise changelog focuses entirely on bug fixes that could noticeably enhance stability for affected users. Specifically, the patch improves music controls—particularly on models without built-in Wi-Fi—and resolves unexpected system crashes during navigation, an issue especially disruptive during outdoor activities. Additional fixes address weather data sync failures, sleep mode glitches, and pairing instability with heart rate chest straps. The update is not being pushed automatically to beta program participants; users must manually initiate the download through the update function on their smartwatch.
