Garmin has announced beta version 12.21 software as part of its first testing cycle for the Fenix 8, Fenix E and Enduro 3 smartwatches. The update arrived a few days after version 12.19, which added a new Reference Point app to the wearables.
Reference Point is a watch-based navigation app that provides users with a line of sight and bearing to their destination. Tools include cardinal directions, a compass dial and a direction-of-travel arrow. However, the change log for beta version 12.21 notes that this app has been removed temporarily. Garmin explains that it has taken this action as the Use Map feature would crash. It is unclear when the app will return to the smartwatches.
The update also resolved a problem where the devices could crash when you search for some POI categories when using Explore Nearby. This software update is rolling out over the air to users of the Fenix 8 (curr. $999 at Amazon) who have signed up for the Beta Program. A post on the Garmin forum indicates that all eligible smartwatches will receive the update in the next 24 hours.
