Garmin: New OTA update brings new features and bug fixes to smartwatches

Garmin has released a new software version for the Fenix 8 AMOLED (starting at $750 on Amazon), Fenix 8 Solar, Enduro 3, Quatix 8, and Fenix E. As usual, the update will be rolled out across the entire series, regardless of watch size. Compared with version 21.29, the changelog for update 22.35 is lengthy, containing 38 individual entries. Since this is a beta release, it will only be available to participants in Garmin’s Beta Program as a convenient over-the-air download. However, it’s worth noting that the new software will disable the Dive and ECG features.
The update also introduces new features to the watches, including a “glance” function for golf performance. Another addition is a navigation option that guides users to the location where a person has fallen overboard – a particularly relevant safety feature for boating. To use this, the man-overboard point must be saved by a supported device, which can be done quickly in an emergency.
Garmin states that numerous bugs have been fixed. For example, software version 21.39 could cause devices to reset in a wide range of situations, including when installing new apps via the Garmin Connect Mobile app. Resets could also occur when the user is simply recording an activity or viewing the evening report.
