New Garmin smartwatch beta update brings improved audio prompts

Garmin has released a new beta update for the Forerunner 165, Forerunner 255, Forerunner 265, Forerunner 955 and Forerunner 965 smartwatches. This is the first release in the new 28.xx beta cycle, following the conclusion of the 27.xx beta testing at the start of the year.

The beta version 28.03 update brings one improvement to these Forerunner smartwatches. Users can now choose the completion time to be provided in distance interval-related audio prompts. Alongside this is a range of bug fixes. These tackle issues linked to race events, Garmin Run Coach and workout previews. Garmin has also resolved the problem where display settings were not applied as expected after a user had made changes in the Garmin Connect Mobile app. Similarly, a bug that led to certain activities failing to upload to Garmin Connect has been fixed.

Only for users of the Forerunner 255, 265, 955 and 965 smartwatches is the resolution to a problem related to the pairing of Schwinn devices. Only for the Forerunner 955 and Forerunner 965 (curr. $499.99 at Amazon) smartwatches is a fix for a bug which could cause the wearables to crash when a user attempts to save an activity for which they had used the course navigation functionality.

According to a recent post in the Garmin forum, around 20% of users of the Forerunner 165, Forerunner 255, Forerunner 265, Forerunner 955 and Forerunner 965 smartwatches have received this beta update so far. Users will be able to manually install the software by going to the Main menu > Settings > System > Software Update > Check For Updates.
