Garmin Forerunner 955 smartwatch receives new features with Public Beta Version 16.09
The Garmin Public Beta Version 16.09 (Pre-Rollout) is now available for the Forerunner 955 smartwatch. The update adds Endurance Score and Hill Score glances, and the weather map has been added to the Weather glance. Muscle maps are now available for HIIT, Cardio, and Pilates activities, and a Workout app has been added to the Activities & Apps list.
Beta Version 16.09 adds activities for team sports, racket sports and other types of exercise, alongside new map types and map data field options. The latest software provides a range of bug fixes, addressing an issue which caused the Pace Pro screen to freeze and problems with Spotify. Garmin has also tackled the faulty flashlight, which did not remember your previously selected brightness level, bugs with glance folders and the popularity map theme, which was displayed incorrectly. The company also says v16.09 delivers various other fixes for maps. Plus, the software includes updates for GPS Firmware and Sensor Hub Firmware.
Beta Version 16.09 marks the first update in the new 16.xx cycle; Beta cycle 15.xx concluded in May with the update 15.19. You can download software v16.09 from the Main menu > Settings > System > Software Update > Check For Updates. Garmin notes that Version 16.09 is a Release Candidate, meaning that the company plans to launch an exact copy of this software to all wearables, assuming no significant bugs are found during the Beta testing. If you own a Garmin Forerunner 955 smartwatch, you can join the Garmin Beta program via Garmin Connect. The brand recently released a similar update for the Forerunner 255.
