Galaxy Unpacked August 5 to showcase five new devices
August 5 looks to be shaping up to be the big launch event that we had originally speculated that it would be. After some seemingly contradictory tips over the past few days about whether Samsung’s latest foldables would be revealed, Samsung’s head of mobile, TM Roh has published a blog on the company’s website revealing that the next Galaxy Unpacked event will feature the launch of “five new power devices.”
By this, we take it to mean the launch of the Galaxy Note 20 (in standard, Plus, and Ultra models), the Galaxy Z Fold 2, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, the new bean-shaped Galaxy Buds Live and a new Galaxy Watch. Even if the Galaxy Z Fold 2 doesn’t hit the market until a month or two after the launch, which led some to suggest it wouldn’t make the August 5 event, it makes sense for Samsung to announce it at this event just for the extra buzz that it will create.
Roh also outlined his plans for Samsung’s Mobile Division, which he inherited from DJ Koh around six months ago. He references the COVID-19 crisis to highlight just how essential mobile devices have become in the age of remote working. He calls this the “Next Normal” and sees even more innovation ahead as a result including more foldables and emphasis on 5G connectivity. The Next Normal is supported by three strategic pillars: Meaningful Innovations; Open Collaboration; and, Operational Agility.
