The Galaxy Fold 2 will not be making its debut at Samsung’s August 5 Galaxy Unpacked event as many had expected. This leaves the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Flip 5G as the stars of the event which will dash the hopes of those eagerly awaiting a sequel to Samsung’s original, but flawed, foldable. The hope as with anything second-generation is that it will have ironed out the kinks in the first-generation design and the Galaxy Fold is certainly no exception in this regard.
Instead, according to Weinbach, the earliest we are likely to see the Galaxy Fold 2 make its debut will be at a potential yet to be announced September or October Galaxy Unpacked event. It appears that there is no evidence of the Galaxy Fold 2 hardware being tested on the Galaxy Store, which would be indicative of an impending launch. At best, carriers may only be in the early stages of testing the device.
The Galaxy Fold 2 is expected to bring significant improvement to the design of the original Fold. This includes the addition of the same ultrathin foldable glass found on the Galaxy Z Flip as well as a larger and more useful secondary display on the front of the device for use when folded. It is also expected to feature a notch-less internal display and will instead switch to single and much smaller hole punch cutout for a single front-facing camera. It will also be powered by the new Snapdragon 865.
