Tipster @IceUniverse revealed new details about Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Fold 2 device. However, the thinner bezels and larger display raise concerns about durability, especially in the aftermath of Foldgate.

Tipster @IceUniverse just outed new details for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Fold 2. The foldable smartphone will feature a massive 7.7in display - larger than the original Samsung Galaxy Fold - however, a tiny 3.8mm bezel means that the Galaxy Fold 2 might end up having a smaller footprint than its ill-fated predecessor.

The leak also mentions that the Galaxy Fold 2 will have a punch hole camera with a 4.8mm profile to make way for that thin bezel. While a thinner, smaller Galaxy Fold 2 will look even more like something out a Black Mirror episode, this design approach raises questions, especially after the original Galaxy Fold’s Foldgate QA debacle.

Samsung’s Galaxy Fold 1 had a major design flaw that caused its foldable display to crack. This was something that reviewers at a number of outlets found out, much to their dismay. Samsung issued a recall and relaunched the Galaxy Fold only after a redesign.

However, the damage had been done by that point. With foldable smartphones still in their infancy, and with Samsung already having dealt with QA issues in the past, we’re hoping that the new, thinner Galaxy Fold 2 doesn’t end up being more fragile as well.
