The Saboteur sends players to occupied Paris in the 1940s, featuring an open world, sabotage missions, car chases and shootouts. The third-person shooter is 80% off on Steam until May 7, bringing the price down to a new all-time low of just under $2.

In The Saboteur, players take on the role of Irish race car mechanic Sean Devlin, who joins the French Resistance after the death of his best friend and seeks revenge on German officer Kurt Dierker. His path leads him to 1940s Paris, then under occupation by the Third Reich. Thanks in part to its open world and fast-paced car chases, The Saboteur feels like a GTA-style game set during World War II, but it also places emphasis on stealth and sabotage. Trains, bridges, watchtowers and enemy installations can be destroyed, while the Resistance provides support through weapon deliveries, distractions and getaway cars.

One of the game’s most distinctive features, however, is its noir visual style: occupied districts initially appear almost entirely in black and white, while liberated areas regain their color. At release, German gaming magazine GameStar praised the exciting setting, atmospheric open world and well-executed action. Criticism was aimed at the clunky climbing sections, weak enemy AI and monotonous side missions. Even so, the editorial team awarded The Saboteur a strong score of 85 out of 100 points.

The Saboteur also performs solidly on Metacritic, where it holds a Metascore of 73 and a User Score of 7.8. The Steam community is even more positive, with 91% of more than 2,500 user reviews recommending the game. The title is listed as “Playable” on the Steam Deck.

80% off on Steam for the first time

The Saboteur was developed by Pandemic Studios in collaboration with publisher Electronic Arts and released in December 2009. The game has been available on Steam since March 2024 and normally costs around $10, but an 80% discount reduces the price to $1.99 until May 7. According to SteamDB, the previous highest discount was 55%, last seen at the end of 2024. The current deal therefore marks a new all-time low.
