Windows 11 continues to grow among Steam users as Linux pulls back

Valve has published the results from the latest Steam Hardware & Software Survey, and in April 2026, Windows 11 saw yet another growth. To look back, in March 2026, the operating system had 66.65% of the user base, and in April, the OS saw a notable 0.89% growth.
At the current stage, 67.74% of all Steam users are using Windows 11. As for the last-gen Windows 10, it also saw a noticeable growth in April 2026. The share of the operating system has risen from 25.36% to 25.63%, which translates to 0.27% improvement.
With Windows 7 currently holding 0.07% of the users, Windows in general holds 93.47% of the share. Linux, on the other hand, was able to finally surpass the 5% mark in March 2026, but last month, the numbers dropped again. Currently, Steam on Linux has pulled back to 4.52%.
On the hardware side, 16GB of system RAM still remains at the top, with 40.86% of the Steam users having this amount of memory on their systems. Of course, many appear to have upgraded to 32GB of RAM, as this segment saw a 0.93% of growth, currently standing at 37.55% (32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB CL32 DDR5 kit curr. $439.99 on Amazon).
In terms of the GPU, the RTX 3060 holds the largest share, and among all users, 8GB of VRAM still remains popular.
