PrismLinux 2026.05.05 sports a redesigned installer, the Linux kernel 7.0, more

The world of ultralight Linux distros has just welcomed a new refresh of the Arch-based PrismLinux, which is now sitting at version 2026.05.05. This is a stable release with plenty of changes, including the 7.0 kernel, GNOME 50 support, and much more.
Without further ado, these are the other highlights worth mentioning when it comes to PrismLinux 2026.05.05:
- Improved navigation, native localization, and low-end hardware support in the installer.
- During setup, the user can choose one of the three shells available (Bash, Fish, Zsh).
- The package manager frontend Octopi has been replaced with Shelly.
- Xorg was removed from the LiveCD, which now runs KDE Plasma with a Wayland session.
- A pre-configured desktop alongside auto-login enabled by default.
- Improved Nvidia support during the live session.
- KWallet creates a default wallet automatically on first login.
- Crystallize GUI was officially renamed PrismLinux Installer.
- xLibre replaces Xorg across the system.
- New CLI utilities for system management: prism-clean, prism-update, prism-arch-check, and prism-rate-mirrors.
In addition to the above, the website received a full redesign, and the repository got plenty of fixes.
The ISO has 2.5 GB in size, and the system requirements include 2/30 GB of memory/storage, with 8 GB of memory highly recommended for a fluid experience. While the official website doesn't specify a certain processor, the $86 AMD Ryzen 5 5500 (thanks to a 46% Amazon discount) should be more than enough to get PrismLinux speeding.
