Introduced over a decade ago, DietPi is a Debian-based distro that is currently running on over 135,000 systems worldwide. While supporting PCs and virtual machines, it is mainly developed for single-board computers(SBCs). The list of supported devices is quite long, and it includes families of very popular and lesser-known SBCs, such as Raspberry Pi, PINE64, NanoPi, Asus Tinker Board (the Tinker Edge T with GC7000 Lite graphics, a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, and 1/8 GB memory/storage is now $87.79 on Amazon), Odroid, Radxa, Allo, and more. The latest update is based on Debian 13 and carries the 9.17 version number.
According to the official release notes (link at the end of the article), this new release "comes with faster and less disk space consuming DietPi backups, a Roon Server early access toggle, solved SPI storage flashing issues, and more." These are some highlights:
- Updated support for HiFiBerry sound cards on Raspberry Pi devices.
- Solved the SPI bootloader flashing fail issue on Rockchip SoCs.
- Handled two 9.16 regressions in DietPi-Software and DietPi-Portainer, as well as one 9.13 regression in DietPi-Tools | DietPi-Config.
- Several visual and spelling fixes.
- Multiple code tweaks and improved stability.
