GTA 6: Jason and Lucia’s romance may not be predetermined

It is already known that the relationship between Lucia and Jason will play a central role in the story of Grand Theft Auto VI. The latest release from controversial leaker CyberLeek shows Jason carrying out two chaotic gas station robberies before visiting the “Rusty Anchor” strip club. A brief on-screen indicator near the end of the video could suggest that the relationship between the two protagonists is not an entirely predetermined romance.

Toward the end of the clip, Jason enters a restroom. Shortly afterward, a heart icon briefly appears on the screen. At the same time, the mission objective “Return to Lucia” can be seen beneath the icon. Reddit user u/Kindly-Joke3109 points out that the displayed heart differs from the regular health icon, which features a plus sign. This has led to the theory that GTA 6 could track how well or poorly Jason and Lucia’s relationship is going in the background.

The theory is further supported by Jason’s official character description. It states that meeting Lucia could be the best or worst thing that ever happened to him – which could, in turn, suggest that players may have some influence over how their relationship develops.

Could the relationship affect the story?

If this turns out to be true, GTA 6 could feature different dialogue depending on player behavior or perhaps even offer alternative endings. Exactly how such a relationship mechanic would work can only be speculated about at this point. As a comparison, Redditors point to GTA 4, where friendships and romances can be maintained through shared activities – and having a good relationship with certain characters can sometimes unlock practical bonuses.

Heart icon could simply indicate health

Other users offer a much simpler explanation: The heart could merely indicate that Jason regenerates some health by using the restroom. This would also explain why the displayed heart differs from the actual health icon. The supposed relationship icon and the “Return to Lucia” mission objective may therefore have appeared at the same time purely by coincidence. We may get a definitive answer as early as August 27, when Rockstar Games finally shows the long-awaited Extended Look at GTA 6 (available for pre-order on Amazon).
