New evidence concerning a mysterious GPD gaming handheld has emerged on Geekbench. Codenamed G1618-05, the AMD Strix Halo-powered device appears to be the long-awaited GPD Win 5, given the company's recent model numbers.

A few weeks have passed since evidence of a mysterious GPD device powered by an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU turned up online. As we discussed at the time, the single image that surfaced showed a device resembling the GPD Win 4 (curr. $1,039 on Amazon).

Now, what appears to be the same prototype has emerged on Geekbench bearing the model number 'G1618-05'. For context, previous G1618 revisions have fallen within GPD's Win series. Specifically, G1618-03 relates to the Win 3, while G1618-04 is the model number for all Win 4 variants.

Therefore, G1618-05 is unlikely to be an updated Win 4. Instead, it could be the model number behind the Win 5. At any rate, the presence of 24 GB RAM suggests that GPD has been prototyping G1618-05 with 32 GB of RAM but 8 GB assigned for VRAM. As we have discussed separately, Strix Halo-powered devices are best paired with 64 GB of RAM and above.

Regardless, the G1618-05 comes up only slightly short of what we would expect from a Ryzen AI Max+ 395 powered device even at this early stage. Unfortunately, it still remains unclear at this stage whether GPD intends to release G1618-05 or when at this stage.
